Career and Life

Demaryius Antwon Thomas is an American football wide receiver for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Georgia Tech, and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. With Denver, Thomas made five Pro Bowls and won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.

Thomas broke his foot and was unable to participate in combine drills. He scored second highest among wide receivers with 34 on the Wonderlic test, second only to friend, fellow wide receiver, and future teammate Eric Decker, who had the highest score in the Combine with 43.

Thomas was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round with the 22nd overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. On July 31, 2010, the Broncos signed him to a five-year, $12.155 million contract with $9.35 million guaranteed.

On October 30, 2018, the Broncos traded Thomas and a seventh round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to the Houston Texans for a fourth and seventh round pick in the 2019 draft. In his debut with Houston, he beat the Broncos, his former team, 19-17. He made three catches for 61 yards in the win.

On April 16, 2019, Thomas signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. He was released during final roster cuts on August 31, 2019.[169] Three days later, on September 2, 2019, the Patriots re-signed Thomas to a one-year contract, but he never played a regular-season game for the team.

On September 10, 2019, Thomas was traded to the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He made his Jets' debut in a Week 2 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He scored his first and only touchdown as a Jet on a 14-yard pass from Sam Darnold in a 22–21 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 14.

In the 2019 season, Thomas appeared in 11 games and recorded 36 receptions for 433 yards and a touchdown.

Thomas announced his retirement on June 28, 2021.

Thomas was found dead at his home in Roswell, Georgia, on December 9, 2021, 16 days before his 34th birthday. The cause of death was a seizure due to complication of injuries Thomas suffered in a 2019 car crash. He had experienced health problems following a car crash in 2019, and police said that his death was attributed to a "medical issue".
